Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher

Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher

Ceyx erithaca erithaca
Panti Forest, Malaysia - July 1 2015
This little jewel is one of many, many wonderful birds that can be found at Panti Forest, in the Malay peninsula.
The classification of this taxon is treated very differently by the various taxonomists out there, so they make it a bit complicated to me. By HBW it is a subspecies of the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca rufidorsa). According to IOC it is a morph of the nominate subspecies (Ceyx erithaca erithaca) and by Clements it is monotypic taxon and is called Rufous-backed Dwarf-Kingfisher (Ceyx rufidorsa). Did I get this right? Well, I am an IOC man....
