Junín Lake (Lago Chinchaycocha), Junín, Peru - 5 december 2019
South America has lost two Grebe species in recent time, and the critically endangered Junin Grebe may be next in line. Only about 300 birds remains in a single locality, and threats like pollution from mining and hydro-electric power activities. I saw these birds already in 1995 from the shore of the lake, but this time we chartered two small boats to get closer looks.
